6 simple ways to make your home hibernation ready

Oh, the weather outside may be turning frightful but that shouldn’t be an excuse to fall behind on your home and decor. Winter is the time to truly indulge in everything warm and cosy. Think rich textiles, subdued lighting and seasonal scents - the perfect opportunity to replenish your interiors and make your home hibernation-worthy.

We've teamed up with online homeware retailers Wayfair, to showcase the top 6 ways you can transform your home ahead of the year’s coolest season.

1) All the Candles

Call it a cliché but scented candles are the best thing about Winter decor. Not only will your home be filled with soft and subtly romantic lighting, the scents available for this time of year will really help to elevate your home. From seasonal aromas such as cinnamon and gingerbread to pine needle, log fire and clove, find yourself unwinding in a wintery dreamland every time you light up yours.

2) Upcycle, Always

Hands up whose news feed isn’t crammed full of worrying signs about the world and our climate? We all can (and have to) do our bit for the environment and there’s nowhere better to start than at home. Ever heard of upcycling? Well, you have now. It’s the cheap, completely unique and super simple way to create your own home decor without the need or want to buy anything new. With inspiring and helpful guides such as the #WayfairDIY series on hand, there’s never been a better time to rejuvenate your home the eco-friendly and personal way.

3) As Snug as a Bug in a Rug (Or Similar)

Invest in thick, textured pieces and pile them up throughout your house. A Scandi-style sheepskin rug thrown over a dining chair or two, a woollen blanket sprawled out over the living room sofa or a fluffy rug laid ready and waiting for when you step out of bed - some call it log cabin chic, we call it pure heaven.

4) Rearrange, Rework and Rethink

This tip really is that simple. Notice if you have any pieces of furniture such as a sofa, armchair or any other big and bulky item blocking your radiators and reshuffle them. Allow your heat source to be open and seep into your rooms to create a warm and inviting atmosphere and save yourself a few quid on the energy bill while you’re at it.

5) Cheery and Bright

Typical Winter tones include rich shades of plum, red and brown or neutrals but don't let that stop you from mixing in some brighter colours too. Living up those dark and dank corners with pops of electric blue, pink and green by adding a patterned cushion or vibrant lamp shade and ensure your rooms stay cheery the whole season through.

6) Curtain Call

Nothing keeps the Winter chill at bay like a good pair of curtains. Both functional and fashionable, save money in the long run by opting for a pair in a heavy fabric such as linen, wool, cotton or even velvet, turning your home into a cosy yet stylish refuge.
