From the South: From the A14, travel north towards Huntingdon / The Midlands and leave the A14 at junction 25 following signs for Longstanton, Northstowe and Bar Hill on the B1050. As you exit the A14, take the 1st exit at the roundabout and follow the B1050 towards Longstanton and Northstowe. In half a mile, take the 1st exit at the roundabout and continue along B1050. At the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit, leave the B1050 and join Home Farm Road. Shortly after joining this road, take a right turn onto School Lane. As you continue along this road, after about half a mile it will change to Rampton Road.

Shared Ownership

Buying a home is a big decision and one that requires a large investment. If you’re struggling to get onto the property ladder due to all the associated costs, a scheme such as shared homeownership could help make owning your dream home a reality.

The shared ownership scheme lowers the cost of buying a new property, making it easier for first-time buyers to get onto the property ladder.

How it works

Shared home ownership works through a housing association; you buy into a share of your home, usually between 25% and 75%, and then pay rent on the remaining amount.

With the shared ownership scheme, you are part buying and part renting a leasehold home. This means your lease gives you the right to occupy the home for a much longer period than with traditional renting. Usually, the lease on a leasehold ownership property is 99 or 125 years, but this doesn’t mean you’re tied to the home for this extended period – the home can still be bought or sold during this time. This gives you the freedom to sell and move if needed, but the additional assurance of owning part of your home and maintaining the rights to live there over a prolonged period.

With shared ownership, you still need a mortgage to purchase a share, however, as you’re not paying towards the full cost of the house, the amount of money you need for your deposit will be a lot lower.

  • If you want to go ahead with Deposit Unlock, we’ll supply written confirmation to specified lenders

Thanks to the success of initiatives such as the First Home Scheme and Help to Buy, we’re working in partnership with Councils across the UK to make buying a new home within the reach of more people.

Designed to help working people and first-time buyers get onto the property ladder, participating local councils can offer Discounted Open Market Sales on selected homes. These are available with huge discounts, often around 20%, but some may be as high as 50% off the sale price. The local Council owns the remaining equity in the property. But unlike traditional Shared Ownership Schemes, there’s no rent to pay on the rest.

How Discounted Open Market Sale schemes work:

Also known as Council Shared Equity, each Council sets their own criteria. This will vary from region to region and by development. Which homes are available on the scheme is decided before the development begins so you’ll need to check the webpages of the developments you are interested in to see if they are being offered.
