Turning Sustainability Plans into Action
When we launched our Sustainability Strategy in March, we made a commitment to focus on practical actions that would deliver meaningful results. Just a few months on, we're already seeing that ambition translate into real progress across the business.
Thanks to the fantastic efforts of colleagues throughout the organisation, a number of initiatives are now making a measurable difference - helping us reduce carbon emissions, improve efficiency and create more sustainable places for our customers and communities.

Our Sustainability Strategy is built around three key pillars:
- Sustainable Places
- Sustainable Production
- Sustainable Business
From day one, our focus has been on turning plans into action and delivering positive outcomes at pace.

Introduction of low carbon HVO biofuel
One of our most significant achievements so far has been the introduction of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) low-carbon biofuel across our sites. To date, this has helped save 129 tonnes of carbon emissions – the equivalent of around 150 passenger flights between London and New York. As the rollout continues, the initiative has the potential to save up to 1,000 tonnes of carbon each year.

Solar PV Generators
We're also making site operations more efficient through the introduction of a new generator specification that incorporates solar PV technology. Combined with a focus on reducing overall hire periods, the initiative is already delivering results. Three solar-assisted generators are currently in operation, demonstrating significant reductions in fuel consumption.

Reduce waste with Pallet LOOP
In July, we strengthened our commitment to reducing construction waste by partnering with Pallet LOOP, an innovative pallet re-use scheme. With around 20 million pallets produced annually for the UK construction industry, the scheme promotes the use of more durable green pallets that can be collected, returned and reused multiple times, helping to reduce waste and minimise breakages across the supply chain.

Low carbon car fleet
Our colleagues are also playing an important role in reducing emissions. Their vehicle choices have helped transform our company car fleet, with 97% of vehicles now electric or hybrid. This progress is accelerating our journey towards removing petrol and diesel models from the company car list altogether.

Placemaking best practice
Alongside environmental improvements, we're continuing to raise standards in the way we design and build our developments. A recent initiative has seen us align our placemaking practices even more closely with the industry-leading Building for a Healthy Life framework through the introduction of a new internal placemaking scoring system. This will help ensure we continue to create high-quality, sustainable communities that people are proud to call home.

Building Momentum
While we're proud of the progress made so far, this is only the beginning. There is plenty more planned for the months ahead as we continue to drive improvements across all areas of the business.
It's particularly encouraging that our efforts have already been recognised externally. Earlier this year, we were delighted to receive a Silver award in the NextGeneration Sustainability Benchmark for homebuilding, reflecting the commitment and hard work of colleagues across the organisation.

By continuing to work together and focus on practical, measurable action, we're building momentum towards a more sustainable future - one initiative at a time.
