Halebank Primary School pupils name new community
Keepmoat has collaborated with a local primary school, giving them the opportunity to shape the identity of the new neighbourhood.
Pupils from Halebank Primary School were invited to collaborate with the housebuilder by submitting naming suggestions from the new scheme off Hale Bank Road.
With more than 100 proposals from across the school, a panel of judges selected ‘Cherry Vale’ as the winning entry, submitted by a group of four-year-old pupils in reception after its own name ‘cherry class’.
Work is due to start at Cherry Vale in September, which will deliver new homes alongside green spaces, improved walking and cycling links and land safeguarded for future community facilities.
Julie Baker, Social Value Manager at Keepmoat North West, said: "We wanted local children to be involved in playing a part in creating the identity of this new community, and the enthusiasm from pupils at Halebank Primary School was incredible.
"Cherry Vale is a fantastic name and one that reflects a real sense of place. The competition gave pupils the chance to think about what makes their local area special while helping shape a development that will become part of the community for generations to come.”
Once the name was selected, the housebuilder partnered with branding agency Milk Design and Cronton Sixth Form College to launch a logo design competition, challenging T Level Art and Construction students to create the visual identity for Cherry Vale.
Peter Barlow, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat North West, said: "Creating successful communities starts long before the first residents move in. It's about building relationships, listening to local people and working with them to create opportunities that can have a positive impact within the area.
"At Keepmoat, we’re extremely proud to partner with local schools and colleges throughout the early stages of Cherry Vale and we're committed to continuing that engagement as the development progresses.
"Involving local young people to help name the development is a great example of how communities can play a meaningful role in shaping the places around them."
The new homes will provide a mix of types, tenures and affordability options as Keepmoat partners with a local housing provider to make sure that there's plenty of affordable housing options for local people.
