World Environment Day: How Keepmoat is creating homes for the future

With the anticipated Future Homes Standard (FHS) legislation due to come into effect over the next 18 months, new homes requirements will change. The latest home standard legislation is set out to require carbon emissions to be reduced by up to 80 percent in comparison to current standards.
At Keepmoat, we offer a range of new homes that already incorporate energy-saving and carbon limiting technologies, and we’re working to deliver homes meeting the standard of the anticipated update.
To celebrate World Environment Day on 05th June, we’re exploring the benefits of energy-efficient homes and how changing our lifestyles can lead to a better environment.
Creating low carbon communities
At Keepmoat we are committed to building homes designed for the future, embracing energy-efficient low carbon technologies through our Echo home design.
After buying a new home at Winterstoke Gate equipped with an air source heat pump, 44-year-old Joe and 32-year-old Robert have saved more than £645 over just six months despite the rising energy costs.
The couple moved to their Keepmoat home last year and have seen significant savings throughout winter through effective usage of the energy-efficient technology embedded in their home.
Before moving, the couple lived in a two-bedroom flat and saw energy bills soar to £203 a month. Now, Joe and Robert pay an average of just £107 a month - a saving of almost 50%.
Our Winterstoke Gate development, located in Locking Parklands, boasts 135 carbon neutral homes incorporating the Keepmoat ‘Echo’ home design. These homes are fitted with technology to support residents to use less energy through features such as improved thermal performance, reduced energy wastage and enhanced energy efficiency.
The features and benefits of energy efficient homes
Commenting on his new home, Joe said: "Moving into a new build has been a long-awaited dream for both of us, and the whole process has been smooth and seamless. We’re absolutely delighted with our new home.
“Since we first got on the property ladder, we’ve always aimed for a sustainable forever home and Winterstoke Gate ticks all the boxes, with energy-saving technology included as standard, something which we didn’t have in our old home. The savings we’ve already seen on energy costs have been amazing, and the added space to host our family has been an incredible bonus.
“We love the discreet solar panels on the roof—they’re a fantastic feature. The air-source heat pump is incredibly effective, keeping the house warm and comfortable with minimal energy use. We’re thrilled with our home’s EPC rating of A, and it’s so rewarding to see how we’re saving energy while enjoying the benefits of lower bills.”
Trudie McCormick, Technical Development Director at Keepmoat, said: “There’s a lot of concern about the initial cost of implementing energy-saving technology and a question over how long it will take to see cost savings, however, Joe and Robert’s story proves that savings can be seen instantly and are truly beneficial in the long run.
For Keepmoat, it’s not just about building homes, it's about futureproofing them for generations to come.”
