Love Parks Week: Creating green spaces that boost your mood
Modern living has shifted to focus on flexible layouts, increased outdoor areas and multipurpose spaces. Homeowners now place greater emphasis on having a garden or being close to nature - and we’re listening!
At Keepmoat we recognise that being close to a peaceful outdoor area, bodies of water and having easy access to nature makes us feel great – so much so that the great outdoors is now recognised as a way to improve our wellbeing by health services.
To celebrate Love Parks Week (25th July - 03rd August) this blog post explores how parks and green spaces enhance our health, wellbeing and overall mood!
The impact of green space
Parks and green spaces (including fields and woodlands!) are key for both our mental and physical health. Whether it’s through exercise, spending time with others, or connecting with nature - all of these contribute to improving our wellbeing.
According to a survey by the NHS, people who spend 20 hours or more per week in a green or natural space are 41 percent more productive than those who spend less than 30 minutes outside across the week. Three quarters of us also say time in nature or green spaces boosts our happiness!
At Keepmoat, we’re dedicated to building homes designed for the future - making sure to create areas with access to nature . Our eco-conscious approach not only means we plant trees and shrubbery, enhancing existing greenspace, we also build footpaths and cycle links, reducing reliance on cars.
In fact, 63 percent of the homes we create provide good access to major cycle routes, creating opportunities for everyone to stay active.

Building connected communities
Investing in parks and green spaces also creates a space where communities can come together. Local parks provide a great spot for friends and family to meet and enjoy a picnic or games, volunteering opportunities and space to exercise outside.
Team Keepmoat has a raft of expert Social Value Managers to work with local people and community groups to ensure ample opportunities across our green spaces are available.
We also foster community engagement through our initiatives, sponsorships, and fundraising events. These efforts have earned us positive relationships with local charities, schools and colleges.

Creating space for nature
Being around nature - trees, birds, insects and flowers all play a vital role in reducing our stress and improving our mood. At Keepmoat, we take pride in enhancing the areas where we operate.
We work with local people to plant hedgerows, trees, rich wildflower grasslands and pollinator parks, alongside installing bat and bird boxes. A key project for Team Keepmoat has also included introducing ‘hedgehog highways’ through our fences, meaning these fantastic creatures are able to navigate through gardens.
These efforts help our developments provide homes for both nature and people.
We’d love to see your pictures of your local green space - use #Keepmoat to connect with us.
