Is this your first home, and what were your reasons for buying?
Yes, this is our first home. Me and my wife wanted to have a home when we were blessed with our son last year September.
Why did you decide you wanted to buy a newbuild home rather than an older property?
We chose new build home because of durability and life of house. And importantly we wanted to have our son’s memories to start with our new home.
Did you use any help-to-buy schemes to allow you to get your foot onto the property ladder? How fundamental was this to being able to buy your new home?
Yes, we used help-to-buy scheme. It was significant help to get our foot onto the property ladder. It wouldn’t have been possible for us if there was no HTB scheme. We used help-to-buy scheme. What were the key features you were looking for in a home?
We were looking for the distance to home from our work place, taking into account train stations and bus stops. We were looking for home with parking and a garden, which suited our budget.
How important was location for you? Did you have a specific location in mind?
Yes, the location was important for us. We were looking to be closer to our work and closer to public transport for shopping centres and the GP/hospital.
How did you find the process of reserving your property right through to obtaining your keys?
With the help of Keepmoat Homes, we were able to move to our new home precisely in 45 days which was brilliant. The house purchase process from the day of reservation until obtaining the keys was very easy and smooth.
When did you move into your new home? How did it feel to walk through that front door?
We moved to our new home on 29th January. We felt so blessed and delighted walking through the front door for the very first time as owners. What did you do on the first night in your new home?
First day in our home was very auspicious for us. According to our tradition and faith, we got our new home blessed by a priest before we moved in to our home. On that day we invited our family and friends for the dinner. Our first day in our new home was well celebrated.
How quickly did it take you to settle in fully?
It took 3 days for us to settle in fully.
Now you’re in your new home, what are you looking forward to the most?
We are looking forward to see our five-month-old to grow and to have lovely time with him.
Which room is your favourite and why?
Sitting room is our favourite room because of lovely view of garden through French windows.
Do you wish you had done anything differently?
We wish we had known about Keepmoat Homes much earlier. Also we should have gone for Amtico flooring throughout lounge/diner area instead of carpet.
What advice would you give to other first-time buyers?
Our best advice for first-time buyers is to look for a new built home as they just need minimum deposit of 5% along with Help To Buy scheme which will help them get onto the property ladder as soon as possible.
