Spring into Wellness: Embracing the Outdoors

As March comes to a close and our clocks go forward, we welcome the arrival of spring! Sure to bring blue skies, evening strolls, and outdoor gatherings—some of these small joys can feel like a distant memory during the cold winter months!
As the warmer months approach, we’re exploring the importance of spending time outdoors to act as inspiration for small changes that can make a big impact as we enjoy lighter days.
The health benefits of spending time outdoors
Studies show that spending just 17 minutes outdoors each day can significantly improve mental wellbeing and mood as a natural way to reduce stress. Exposure to sunlight, even for a brief period, helps us create more serotonin - the hormone that makes us feel happy!
Even a small dose of serotonin can have a positive effect on your day. Consider taking a brisk walk during your lunch break or enjoying a weekend stroll to a nearby coffee shop.
Tapping into being active outside such as walking and cycling can also boost serotonin levels. At Keepmoat, we’re working to reduce reliance on cars by ensuring that more than 94 percent of the communities we build are located less than a kilometre from public transport.
Additionally, 63 percent of these homes have good access to major cycling routes, helping residents get around and stay active.
Take time out to explore your local area
We are fortunate to have a variety of beautiful green spaces across the UK, including the rolling countryside and national parks. Taking time to explore your local area and discover new walking routes is a great way to spend more time outdoors, increase your step count and mental wellbeing.
Consider meeting up with a family member, friend or neighbour for a walk in your area. This can uplift your spirits and provide an opportunity to communicate and catch up. We host multiple rambling societies across our developments, get in touch with your Sales Executive to find out more!
Small changes that make a big difference
Taking the time each day to enjoy the outdoors in brighter weather is incredibly important - here are a few simple adjustments to your routine that can make a significant impact.
If you drive to work or the train station, consider walking or cycling if you live within a reasonable distance. You could also take your lunch break outdoors by enjoying a stroll.
With lighter evenings approaching, it's much more inviting to go for an evening walk to appreciate the fresh breeze and your surroundings. A perfect opportunity to meet up with your local community.
As the days grow longer, let’s motivate each other to spend more time outdoors to help improve mood and health this summer.
We would love to see how you’re enjoying the lighter evenings. Share your own ideas using the hashtag #Keepmoat
