For example, there’s the Forge Valley Woods National Nature Reserve on the edge of the village which is part of the largest community managed woodland in England.

Commuting made easy
East Ayton places you near the A170. From here you can head East straight into Scarborough, or West to Pickering, then onwards to Thirsk. You can also hop onto the A64 or A171 with ease. From these you can go North to Whitby, then carry on to Middlesbrough, while driving South takes you to Filey, Bridlington and then Hull. Or you can head South West to Malton and York. If you prefer to travel by rail, Scarborough Train Station is only 10-minutes away. From here, a regular service runs to York from where you can then head up and down the country.
