About Bedford

This part of Bedfordshire has all of the modern amenities you will ever need. From supermarkets and shops to leisure facilities, it is all on your doorstep. Plus, The Maples is in a well-established part of the town, it has a leafy suburban atmosphere with lots of green open spaces and stunning parks nearby.

When it comes to grocery shopping, you are spoilt for choice. There is a large Tesco Extra and a Morrisons just a few minutes’ drive away. Plus, in Bedford itself there is a wide range of stores, from the budget-friendly to premium. The town is also home to a variety of independent shops, authentic Italian deli's, stylish cafés, coffee shops and so much more. 

One of the best things about life at The Maples is that so much is so close to home. If you love movies, Cineworld is just a short drive away. Or if you are feeling active, the Oasis Beach Pool, with its fun pool slides, gym and a variety of activities, is great for families. The John Bunyan Sports and Fitness Centre is also a short walk away, plus there is another swimming pool in Kempston. 

Whether you run, cycle or just walk the dog, there are lots of parks nearby to enjoy. The closest is Jubilee Park. A fantastic wide open space, it is perfect for a relaxing stroll.

Just over 2 miles away, Priory Country Park is a popular spot with locals. This Green Flag awarded park has a large lake and a series of smaller ones, it has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor. There is a number of wildlife trails that provide regular walks throughout the year, plus great fishing, boating, bird watching and a play area for the children.

With a good choice of local schools, The Maples is the ideal location for growing families. King’s Oak Primary is just a 4 minute walk away and Shackleton Primary a 6 minute walk. For the older children, Bedford Academy and The Bedford Free School are also both nearby.  

With excellent transport links and lots of fantastic local attractions, there is always plenty to explore, or the ideal location for a family day out.

For animal-lovers, Woburn Safari park is less than 30 minutes away. With road and foot safari trails, plus keeper talks and demonstrations, it is the perfect way to get up close to amazing animals. ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is also nearby – just a 40 minute drive away. Here you can see animals from around the world, and there is even a steam train to take you around the territories of some of the world’s most iconic and endangered animals.

If getting out into the fresh air is your thing, the Chiltern Hills are easy to get to and perfect if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. The stunning rolling hills and picturesque English countryside is an amazing place to explore. And it is not only a walkers and wildlife-lovers paradise, there are lots of tucked away villages and quaint market towns to discover too.
