About Coventry

Coventry is the 11th largest city in the UK, the 9th largest city in England and has a population of over 300,000.

It is the home of two well known Universities; University of Warwick and Coventry University. The University of Warwick won the BBC’s University challenge in April 2007.

Coventry has over 12 schools (including specialist and single sex schools), a sixth form centre and three education colleges.

Coventry became a twin city when it formed a partnership with the Russian city Volgograd during World War II

Lunt Fort is a historic attraction built in the Roman times.  It is situated in Baginton, just outside Coventry.

St. Michaels Cathedral is Coventry’s best known landmark and visitor attraction and at 303 feet high the spire is the third highest in England.

Out and About:
Coventry is the home of the award winning Godiva Festival which is famous for its carnival parade through the War Memorial Park. The festival is held once a year in the summer.

Warwick arts centre includes an art gallery, a theatre, a concert hall and a cinema which means you’re going to be spoilt for choice when it comes to visiting the arts centre.

The War Memorial Park is Coventry’s premier park and attracts over 400,000 visitors from the city and beyond. While some of those just visit for the casual day out others come to attend one of the many events held at the park every year.

St Mary’s Guildhall is another historic attraction in Coventry and is definitely a must see; the historic rooms are accessible to visitors and it is located in the city’s cathedral quarter.

The Herbert Art Gallery has a number of events on all year round for all the family; it is a great day out and just outside the city centre.

The Belgrade Theatre is also in the city centre of Coventry and has a variety of theatre productions on all year round. There is also a free U26’s scheme which allows young people to visit the theatre for free and selected productions have 20% off ticket prices.

The Richo arena is where Coventry City play football and also hosted events for the 2012 Olympics as well as other sporting events and concerts.

Transport Links:
There is a railway station situated in the city centre, which offers regular services between London and Birmingham (and further locations) along with two suburban railway stations in Canley and Tile Hill.

For those who drive there are two park and ride sites and a bus and coach interchange in the city centre of Coventry.

The nearest major airport is Birmingham International Airport, which is 17km west of the city, there is also an airport in Baginton, Coventry which is 8km south of the city.
