Celebrating God’s Own County on Yorkshire Day

The county of Yorkshire has contributed a lot to society throughout history including Yorkshire puddings, fish and chips and proper Yorkshire tea! It has also been home to many successful and famous folk including the Brontë sisters, David Hockney, Nicola Adams and the Brownlee brothers. On Yorkshire Day (1st August), we want to take some time to appreciate all that’s glorious about the region, including our selection of stunning developments, all the way from Sheffield right through to Scarborough.

If you’re looking to make the move, or maybe you just have your own personal connection to the place, read on to see why so many people are proud to call this place their home.

Food & drink

A wealth of exquisite food has originated from Yorkshire. Fish and chips, Yorkshire puddings, parkin and Wensleydale cheese all come from this part of the country even though their popularity has since spanned far and wide, and when it comes to drinks, one thing Yorkshire knows how to nail is a brew – whether that be a proper cup of tea or an original craft beer.

Local delicacies are celebrated across the county with a long list of annual food and drink festivals. One popular event being Malton Food Lovers Festival, located near our Ebor Chase development – and there’s also a gin festival as well, if you fancy trying the local tipple.

Yorkshire is home to plenty of landmarks recognised for miles around; York Minster, The Humber Bridge and The Piece Hall to name just a few, and as well as these, there are also some nationally and internationally recognised cities and towns that are well worth a visit.

Leeds is the city of cities and has everything you could ever want including architecture, shopping, music venues, and great places to eat, drink or have a day out. The city has also been hailed as having one of the most creative, hard-working, and diverse populations in the country, so you know you’ll be in good company if you fancy a visit.

Our Fusion, Timeless and Affinity developments are all close to Leeds city centre and offer modern, convenient living with a range of transport links, amenities and green open spaces nearby.

Not too far down the road is Doncaster, a historical market town in the south of Yorkshire, renowned for horse racing and Georgian architecture as well as much, much more. Many famous faces also come from there including Louis Tomlinson and Jeremy Clarkson, and our Dominion, Skylarks Grange and The Springs developments are all within close proximity to the centre.

Another great city in Yorkshire is Hull, which was granted UK City of Culture status in 2017 thanks to its rich history and society.

Our Amy Johnson development celebrates the city’s heritage and is named after the 1930’s hull born pioneering aviator. Amy Johnson was the first female pilot to fly from Britain to Australia and was a Frist Officer in the Royal Airforce during the Second World War.

From the beauty of the North York Moors to the rugged sandy beaches of the East Yorkshire coast, the region’s scenery captures the very essence of what Yorkshire is all about, and locations such as Bramham Park, Aysgarth Falls and Malham Cove have even featured in Hollywood films or series’ that you’re likely to have seen.

The most commonly known beauty spot is the Yorkshire Dales, comprising of river valleys, hills and quaint market towns, it’s well worth a visit if you’ve never had the chance - although you’ll need a lot of time on your hands to cover it all.

The Yorkshire coastline is home to some of the UK’s most charming countryside, as well as hidden treasure shoreline towns and villages that you may not have heard of. It runs from the Tees estuary to the Humber estuary on the east coast of England with places like Flamborough, Hornsea and Scarborough dotted along it.

Our Capella development in Scarborough is just a ten minute drive from the beach, with a good transport network nearby to keep residents well connected to the rest of their stunning county.
