Getting in the Spirit with Kirsty Taylor
Kirsty Taylor has been working at our Spirit Quarters development in Coventry since August, starting out as a temporary member of staff before impressing the team and being made permenant. We had a chat with her about Spirit Quarters and the benefits of living in a brand new build home.
What is the best thing about Spirit Quarters?
The best thing about Spirit Quarters is the difference it makes. I love seeing people who never thought they would be in a position to buy their own home, being able to do just that.
Why should people move to Spirit Quarters?
Spirit Quarters is the changing face of Coventry. I have sold houses to military, doctors, pastors and many more pillars of society, and who wouldn’t want to live around people like them?! I love reading some of the lovely comments from people on their survey after they have moved in, it’s great to see how happy they are with their new homes.
What are the benefits of buying a new build?
There are plenty of benefits. You are moving in to a home that is brand new, everything is clean, neutral and a blank canvas for you to do what you like! You will save the unwanted expense of replacing faulty boilers or having to fix the previous owners DIY disasters. New build houses are much more energy efficient than older houses, holding more heat and reducing your energy bills! You are also the start of a new community, everyone on your street is also a new person to the area, you are all in it together and will be part of each other’s lives for years to come.
How affordable is buying your own home?
At the moment, it is within a lot of people’s reach to buy their own home, and there is help out there for most people. A few years ago, you would have needed a substantial amount in the bank to even consider buying, but now you need as little as 5% deposit plus your legal fees, thanks to the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme. Buying your own home can also save you a lot of money compared to renting. I have seen people paying over £1000 a month in rent, but with a mortgage it’s reduced to around £500 a month living in the same size house that they now own!
Top tip for moving day?
My tip for moving day is to spread it out! Don’t be hasty handing in your notice to your landlord. Allow yourself a couple of weeks to get everything moved and put in the right place. There is nothing worse than doing it all in one day and being surrounded by boxes when really you should be settling in to your new home.
