With the cold nights creeping in, it’s the perfect time to snuggle up in a cosy blanket. We’ve teamed up with Danielle Dixon from House To Home At Last to review a selection of blankets and throws from Terrys Fabrics, MADE To Last, Wayfair and Cotton And Olive, helping you find the perfect product to keep you toasty and warm all winter.
Once the weather drops a few degrees it's officially blanket season! However, if you're like me you'll probably be using them all year round. Whether you're someone who enjoys having the heating blasting, or sitting by the fire, you can't beat the extra warmth and comfort that a blanket gives.
I've reviewed four different blankets, all with different materials, sizes and price tags to see which one offers the most.
I've got blankets from Wayfair, Made to Last, Terrys Fabrics & Cotton & Olive, ranging in price from £24.99 - £99.99.
FatFace - Sai Throw Charcoal (£65.00)
First up we're going to look at this beauty. The Sai throw designed by FatFace is both stylish and cosy, adding a unique and textured detail to any home! It's made from a beautiful mixture of cotton and wool, making it super warm and soft to the touch.
The design is really beautiful, and it's definitely got the soft feel to it that you'd want when getting cosy. I love the tassels on the ends and would really recommend this blanket.
If you want something that's a good size - this throw definitely is! It measures 130cm x 170cm, so it's big enough to share, or to to wrap up in.
The throw is dry clean only which is a shame but expected with this material. This range has matching cushions and bedding too, which is great if you're a lover of this design.
This one definitely passes all my criteria and I would recommend this one to anyone.
Sophia Throw (Currently on offer at £24.99 - Regular Price is £38.00)
This two-tone textured faux fur throw with an anti-pill polar fleece reverse is warm and soft, perfect for cold winter nights.
When I think of getting cosy, I always think of faux fur blankets – there is just something about them that feels extra comforting, plus they do always keep you lovely and toasty. This particular throw has a black reverse side. The fur is labelled as silver, but does have a bluey grey tinge to the colour and is definitely somewhat lighter than showcased on their website, but nevertheless it’s still a beautiful blanket.
IT's a really big blanket; long and definitely wide enough to share, measuring 152cm x 177cm. It is hand wash only but from previous experience, I've found faux fur blankets to be quite resilient and would survive a washing machine wash if necessary.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this one. It's really big for snuggling under and lovely and thick for keeping you warm, not to mention super soft to the touch.
It’s an absolute bargain at only £24.99.
MADE to Last
Grey and White Large Check Cashmere & Lambswool Throw by Foxford (Currently on offer at £99.99 - Regular price is £125.00)
Now this is a real luxury item. It has the highest price tag of the four items, but you can definitely see why. You'd expect to get a lot more if you're paying more and you certainly do with this beautiful piece.
Even the packaging was lovely - although simple, it topped all the others, coming in a beautiful slim line box & clear packaging.
When I first received the box I knew instantly which blanket it would be and I wasn't disappointed when I opened it. The throw, which is a mix of lambswool and cashmere, features a block design finish with a rolled fringe. The throws are made in the traditional way at a mill in Foxford, County Mayo in Ireland, where they have been making woven products such as this since 1892.
Beautifully soft to the touch, a gorgeous design and really good size for snuggling under, measuring 140cm x 180cm. The mixture of high quality materials makes it lovely and warm, and it’s the perfect addition to your living room.
Cotton and Olive
Zigzag Textured Cotton Throw (£30.00)
Cotton and Olive is a small online family run business. Originating from Turkey, they started their business selling traditional Turkish Hammam towels and robes and added their bedspreads and throws as a product variation at a later stage, ensuring their concept of being 'lightweight and practical' is present throughout all their products
Although it's not a colour I would usually go for, it actually works really well with my grey décor in my house and the design is really lovely.
The packaging was nice, it came wrapped in tissue paper and inside a cardboard box for protection. As a part of their plastic-free packaging scheme, customers are given the option to choose the plastic-free packaging with no extra cost, which I think is a brilliant idea.
It comes in a few different colours and what I love is that its machine washable and dries quick. I see this as being the perfect kind of blanket for using outdoors to keep you warm on a chilly night. It's very versatile and would work well as a shawl, mini blanket, sofa cover or for layering the bed for a fashionable look and protection.
Measuring at measures 90 x 190cm, it's slightly smaller than I'd like on the width but more than adequate. This throw is 100% cotton and I think £30 is a steal for the design, and work that goes into it.
Which of these would be your chosen favourite? I hope you've enjoyed reading and enjoy getting yourself cosy this winter.
