Keepmoat Homes kick-start careers in construction for Coventry apprentices
10 January 2018
Housebuilder Keepmoat Homes has recently teamed up with WM Housing Group to offer three of its apprentices invaluable on-site work placements to lay the foundations for their careers in construction.
Jake Kemp, electrical apprentice, Zac West, plumbing apprentice and Kaine Taylor, carpentry apprentice, successfully completed the three-month placements at the Keepmoat Homes Spirit Quarters development in Coventry. During their placements, the students were given the opportunity to complete various aspects of the construction process and learn new skills along the way, such as pipework, cabling and joisting in the first fix stage, followed by connecting water systems, skirting boards and electrical accessories in the second fix stage.
Keepmoat Homes is committed to developing the future workforce of the construction industry and has signed up to the 5% club, which is a pledge that a minimum 5% of its workforce will be made up of trainees, apprentices and graduates. The housebuilder is currently exceeding this figure at 9%.
Following his placement on site, Kaine Taylor, said
“I would like to thank both Keepmoat and WM Housing Group for giving me the opportunity to come on site, learn new skills and experience a different working environment. All the guys at TJ Carpentry have made me feel really welcome and made it easy for me to get on and learn. My college assessor has visited the site and has seen the work I’ve been doing and is really pleased with how I’ve been getting on.”
Kevin McShane, Site Manager at Keepmoat Homes Spirit Quarters, said
“All three apprentices have come on site and worked really hard in the trades they’ve chosen. I’ve had great feedback from the teams they’ve been working with and each is a credit to WM Housing Group. Well done and I wish them well in their future careers!”
