“I am currently studying on a level 4 construction course, (HNC & NVQ), which last for two years which I was lucky enough for Keepmoat Homes to put me on following completion of my level 2 site administration course as I felt that admin was not the career path I wanted to go down. I feel that Keepmoat have supported me throughout my training on my level 4 as they have provided various internal training which I will be using in my every day role not only as a trainee but once I have my qualification such as my SMSTS, first aid, scaffold inspection training and more. They give me the time I need to get my work done as well as getting help from other departments that I may need. Being an apprentice is ideal as you are getting paid to learn and the college course is paid for meaning I’m not getting myself in to debt if I was to self-fund the course, not only this but I would have also been seen as a mature student on a full time college course where as everyone is at the same age as me and it is a nice classroom environment to be in. While doing my apprenticeship I have given talks about the job roles and paths ways that apprenticeships lead to and have been able to give advice to other full-time students about career opportunities in the construction industry and within Keepmoat. At times the workload can be demanding, combining the job and course work, but I find that this has prepared me for a full-time working job/life. At Keepmoat trainees are not seen as trainees but are seen as respected professionals in the company, which makes me feel personally valued, and a well respects team member both in the regional office and out on site office."
