Job description

Main purpose of the role

  • This role reports to the Regional Managing Director and in his absence will deputise for him/her in both internal and external meetings when required.
  • The main purpose of the role is to contribute to the region’s delivery goals i.e. both financial and business targets, to liaise with other department heads to ensure budgeted objectives are met with a commitment to build and motivate the team and their continued development.
  • To support all functions to ensure the region operates effectively and efficiently as a team; to work with the RMD to underpin the delivery of the financial performance to enable the profitable growth of the business; support the RMD in embedding a strong customer focus that delights our customers and achieves and sustains 5-star Hallmark status.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the business if the RMD is absent
  • To be the key contact for the Company and Group Executive as and when required
  • Support all functions in the Regional business to help deliver its targets and ultimately exceed budgets
  • Work with function heads to coordinate operational delivery of targets set
  • Provide support to each function when under pressure or in need of a second opinion
  • Identify areas of risk within the business and take action to address them
  • Work with all departmental heads to help build experienced, competent teams
  • Drive cross department working across the whole business
  • Have the flexibility and ability to drive key areas of the business as and when required
  • To actively participate in the growth strategy for the region and liaise with relevant Department Heads/Managers in relation to identifying new opportunities

People Management Responsibilities

  • To lead and build a motivated and engaged team
  • To recruit the right talent into the business
  • To develop team members by enabling and motivating them to be the best that they can to build a strong talent pipeline to support the growth of the Business; completing Talent Mapping and Succession Planning bi-annually ahead of the mid-year and year-end Performance Development Reviews and discussing the outputs with individuals and as a management team to inform resource planning
  • To undertake bi-annual Performance Development Reviews with your team members and effectively manage any concerns that arise relating to these and to support team members Personal Development Plans
  • To address confidently and competently performance, behavioural and absence issues in a supportive manner and taking the necessary actions to improve these while ensuring team members understand their personal responsibilities in these areas

Essential:

  • Technical experience: Proven and demonstrable experience in sustaining business growth by development and management of business plans, working with Board Members to develop solutions to deliver future growth. To ensure delivery on financial profits and cash targets and that revenues are maximised, and all costs controlled. Experience of overseeing financial reporting outputs to ensure accuracy, deliverability and suitable level of challenge.  Adherence to Health & Safety Legislation and ensuring that safe working practices are in place. NB: This is not an exhaustive list of the technical experience that we seek in this role, but what we consider to be critical to the success of this role
  • Skilled and experienced leader confident in managing capability, conduct, absence issues; providing feedback and holding challenging conversations
  • Flexible and agile approach
  • Skilled in relationship building and stakeholder engagement
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, solutions focused approach
  • High degree of resilience and proven ability to work under pressure and at pace
  • Able to work as part of a team or independently, at all levels and be hands-on where necessary
  • Highly effective communication and influencing skills
  • Prepared to work within a large geographical area
  • Excellent level of numeracy and skilled in verbal and written comms
  • High level of computer literacy in MS Office

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of people management tools and techniques e.g. talent mapping; succession planning etc
  • Covered a more senior role to support upward management experience

Education & qualifications

Education and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Relevant functional industry requirements, for example Degree educated in Construction; Quantity Surveying, Finance etc

Desirable:

  • Coaching or Mentoring Qualification for example ILM at level 5 or higher
