Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to join us in this key role within our West Midlands region, based from our office near Tamworth with agile/hybrid working. This role will be primarily focussed on predevelopment activity.
As our construction Engineer, you will provide lean but robust engineering strategies as part of an established, successful land and development team. The role will be working primarily with the land team to de-risk bids and support the due diligence process for land acquisition approval. This would include technical reporting and providing strategies for drainage, cut & fill, retaining walls, foundations, and utilities. Support with groundworks estimating and procurement would also be provided. This would then follow through to supporting planning applications with the necessary technical input and engineering strategy.
External engineers would be utilised where necessary to add detail to the proposed strategy for checking and presentation purposes. The engineering strategy would be handed over to the technical team for the detailed design stage. The role requires the production of accurate value engineered information delivered in line with agreed programmes and budgets. Key capabilities required for this role include -
- Experience of technical and engineering aspects of house building design
- An in-depth understanding of Highway & Sewer Standards
- Construction Design & Management Regulations
- Substantial experience working within a residential housebuilder or equivalent
- Experience of leading the engineering strategy and working in a team
- Adding value to engineering solutions
- Understanding of changes to regulations and legislation
- Strong mathematical ability
- Able to analyse complex data and critically evaluate plans
- Good decision-making skills
- Good understanding of budget management
- Able to direct external consultants
- A good communicator/listener
- An awareness of the social and environmental impact of your work
- Accurate with an eye for detail

- Supporting the land team with the due diligence review and delivery of technical and engineering information required for land appraisals and acquisition.
- Establishing the engineering principles and strategy on all sites.
Skills, knowledge & experience
We are looking for an established predevelopment Engineer who embodies our Keepmoat values; passionate about the housebuilding industry, they will work in a straightforward way, possessing strong organisational skills with a good commercial and contractual awareness. They will be creative with a keen eye for detail and ability to process technical information. They will be collaborative, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong negotiator with proven experience in gaining consent on complex technical approvals. The successful candidate will have previous exposure to a similar role within a UK housebuilder and be comfortable using engineering related software.
