Job description
The Data Engineer Apprentice will work with members of the Data & Insight team and internal stakeholders to ensure that Keepmoat’s data assets are managed effectively in order to facilitate the delivery of actionable insight to business decision-makers. This role is responsible for assisting in the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines / integrations, databases, and data infrastructure.
The apprentice will work closely with the data engineers and data architects to learn and apply best practices in data engineering. The apprenticeship period is 24 months.
The duties will be performed whilst undertaking a Level 5 Data Engineer Apprenticeship programme with Learntech (80% work to 20% studying). The full course outline can be found at this link Data Engineer - LearnTech (learn-tech.com).
This is a recognised qualification and is fully funded by the apprenticeship levy. (Data engineer (level 5) - apprenticeship training course (education.gov.uk). Experience within the housebuilding sector would be advantageous, as well as Dynamics 365 certifications.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and maintenance of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines to move and transform data from various sources into data warehouses or data lakes.
- Collaborate with data engineers to optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Learn and apply SQL database concepts to manage and query data.
- Assist in data modeling and schema design for databases and data warehouses.
- Participate in data quality checks and data validation processes.
- Learn and apply cloud-based data technologies (e.g. Azure) for data storage and processing.
- Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines, integrations and infrastructure.
- Document data engineering processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with the BI Development team to understand data requirements and deliver data solutions.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data engineering.

Skills, knowledge & experience
Essential:
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Collate, evaluate and refine user requirements to design data solutions
- Acts proactively and takes ownership, adapting positively to changing work priorities and ensuring deadlines are met
- Have a strong desire to learn
Desirable:
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to write SQL to query databases
- Excellent communication and written skills
- Experience in an office environment
- Experience within a similar role
- Experience using ETL Tools (Azure Data Factory / Informatica or equivalent)
- Driving licence
Education & qualifications
Essential:
- At least 5 GCSEs Grade 4 / C (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics.
- Achieved a Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a technical subject area or relevant work experience
Desirable:
- A Computer Science or similar technical qualification and/or apprenticeship
- A-Levels or NVQs in relevant technical discipline
