The home buying process

Here’s our simple guide to take you from excited house-hunter to very proud homeowner.

1.  Work out what’s affordable

We know looking around show homes is the most exciting bit, but hold your horses. You need to work out what’s affordable. Knowing this before you start looking helps narrow down your search.

2.  Finding your dream home

With so many Keepmoat Homes developments across the UK, there’s one near you. So come and spend some time with us. Take a look around the show home, explore the development, look at the home options to see what suits you best. Then, when you’re ready, talk to one of our experienced sales advisers who’ll walk you through your options. And remember, Help to Buy makes moving easier and more affordable than you think.

When you’ve found ‘the one’ make sure you don’t miss out on it by reserving your home. You can reserve for as little as £250*.

If your dream home is still being built, your sales adviser will keep you updated on its progress. And when it’s nearing completion we’ll give you a date when you can move in. Don’t worry, we’ll give you plenty of notice.

3.  Get a mortgage

You can go direct to the high street banks and building societies, or ask an independent financial adviser to help you find the right mortgage for you. Find out more about mortgages here.

4.  Make your home yours

One of the benefits of reserving your home early is that there’s time to make it yours. Choose the kitchen, bathroom and finishing touches from our fabulous range to suit your taste.

5.  Time to get all the paperwork in order

You’ll need to find a solicitor to handle the sale for you. Your sales adviser will be able to give you a list of trusted local firms if you need help finding one. Your lender may want to carry out a valuation and there will be legal searches that need to be done. Don’t forget to budget for these extra home buying costs.

6.  Exchange contracts

When your new home is ready and all the mortgage and legal checks are done and dusted, it’s time to exchange contracts. The balance of the deposit is normally paid at this stage and the whole transaction becomes legally binding.

7.  Move in

Once your new dream home is completed and ready for you, it’s time to move in and begin your new life. There’s a lot to think about and organise before moving day, so use our checklist to help you.

*Reservation fee is regionally or development specific and may be higher in some areas. Please speak to your sales adviser to confirm your reservation fee.
