Wakefield City Centre

Description: Bramall Construction refurbished four tower blocks above the Ridings shopping centre in Wakefield City Centre. The comprehensive programme of work included the design, manufacture and installation of steel pitched roofs; repairs to the existing concrete and brick walls; the design and application of insulated render to the walls; the replacement of existing windows; the internal refurbishment of 160 one and two-bedroom flats and communal areas; converting existing stores to eight new flats for disabled people and the replacement of the existing lifts.

Access to the blocks was planned in detail so that there would be adequate, weather-protected, working areas for all trades and total segregation from the public below.

Bramall Construction won 'The Best Refurbishment' award in 2005 from Wakefield Civic Society for this 17-month long scheme.
