"HomeBuy Direct has been a great tool for the housing industry, tackling issues including affordability and mortgage availability.
"Since the scheme launched in September 2008 we have seen a significant increase in the number of properties sold through private sale, which has been complemented by our contracts to build new homes for Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) through our Private Public Partnerships (PPP) schemes.
"We are on target to achieve 62 sales through HomeBuy Direct, so are an advocate of its benefits for house hunters and its importance for the recovering housing industry.
"At present, funding for HomeBuy Direct is only available until March 2010. We and other developers are hopeful that it will be extended to help more people get onto the property ladder and generate sustainable growth in the housing market.
"Whilst the scheme has been successful, I'm sure concerns over possible continuing property price falls prevented many people from signing up. However with buyers confidence returning and prices slowly rising, extending the scheme would give these people the opportunity to re-consider home ownership as a viable option."
