The Keepmoat Foundation - Community Projects (£500-£1500)

The Junk Band, based in Darlington, County Durham is a unique outfit which has benefited from a £1,500 grant. The group uses instruments made entirely of recycled materials such as pots, pans, barrels and cans and unlike most bands, its members do not require previous musical experience.

The Longsight Park Bowling Club, in Manchester received £900 towards erecting shelters to protect their scorers and spectators during matches from the inclement weather. Attendance levels had dropped as they had no appropriate cover - now approximately 200 men and women of all ages use the green during spring, summer and autumn.

Walton Junior FC, on Merseyside is a group of young disabled people aged 8-18 yrs who play football. The sessions are run by disabled coaches and volunteers and are open to non-disabled family and friends. They were awarded £1,500 to allow players aged 18+ and parents to go on coaching courses and purchase equipment to enhance the training sessions as they accommodate more children as the group develops.

The Ivanhoe Art Group, based in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire is an informal, friendly and relaxed learning environment for budding artists. The group received a grant of £1,500 for set up costs, materials and to link into other art groups and attend an arts festival.

The Canopy Housing Project in South Leeds, has benefited from a £750 grant to buy equipment for renovation projects. Canopy provides volunteers such as local residents, young people excluded from school, refugees & asylum-seekers, homeless people with the support and skills required to renovate disused and derelict houses. At the end of the renovation, one of the families who have helped with the project become the residents.
